Antique & vintage shopping in NYC

Posted on by admin

You might wonder why someone who supports small town businesses with being the owner of www.charlestonantiquestores.com is going to be talking about shopping in NYC. My husband and I have twins who are turning 36 on Sunday, so I’m going into NY to stay with my daughter and surprise my son who will be visiting from NJ.  We are going to walk around Brooklyn where I almost moved myself with my cousin Marnie when we were around 19 yrs. old, in 1969.  “Brooklyn Heights” and I still remember the apt. in a brownstone that we saw.  Even then I was into decorating and staging.  One bedroom had a door out to a rooftop deck and I visualized tons of plants to make it seem like a garden patio.

I’ll be going to “The Garage” Flea market that is my favorite.   I love buying “vintage” smalls for stocking stuffers.

I’ll also be shopping at ABC Carpet in downtown NY and visiting a new store that I read about called “The New Traditionalists”.   I get so inspired when I shop that I’ll probably redo a room in my house just by being exposed to these stores.  Sorry Frank, but it does help to have someone who can do anything to do with building.  He’s installed darling pin lights in our great room which show off my son’s black & white photography, built a wall to wall bookcase in our sun room, a potting bench cuter than “Pottery Barns” version, a pergola outside and lots of garden privacy walls.  All of that and he’s working on an old classic wooden boat in his “free time”.  I know.  I’m spoiled.

Got to fly now and start packing!  It was 78 here in Summerville yesterday and mid 70′s today.  I’ll be wearing my tights and lots of layers for my trip to the city.  Wish me well!

Tina
