Hi my antiquing friends.

Frank and I shopped in Walterboro yesterday with visiting relatives who are collectors as we are.  This was another good example of seeing a store selling many of the things that we already own.  It affords you the opportunity to see how these items are “faring” today.  There are always favorites that remain “constants” in the collection world, but then there are other Vintage items that go up and down in popularity.  Thank goodness that my collections are for me and I don’t care if no one is collecting them anymore as I love them and wouldn’t part with them anyway.  If you buy to “sell” that’s a different thing.  You can get stuck unless you do your due diligence and watch trends and stay in touch with the “antiques world”.

Our favorite store is called “Bachelor Hill Antiques”.  You are captured by how the store is “decorated or merchandised”.  You look up and see fabric drapped over rods, making you feel like you are out in a garden.  This store has a wide selection of goodies, including “lucite nesting tables” that I coveted.  They even have a “frame shop” which makes it convenient for any art that you are buying in the area.  We also liked the “Green Lady Gallery” with their very nice selection of mid century modern pieces.  Decorators would love this store as you could just go in and imagine yourself in NYC only not seeing the high prices.  There were quite a few “one of a kind” newly made pieces that gave a “nod” to the mid century era.

Although does not cover “Walterboro” we consider them to be a “cool neighbor” and applaud their efforts of showcasing their antiques community.  Fun day!

I don’t decorate my home in mid centurymodern but I do love how the pieces just work in lofts and the houses of young people starting out.  I love how you can re purpose a buffet by adding wheels or painting over the wood.  Making old look new!  I guess there really is a “hidden designer” in me.  It’s what makes me excited when I see what’s out there in the antique, vintage and consignment stores in Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, West Ashley, North Charleston, Jame Island, Awendaw and of course, Summerville where I hang my hat!  Bring on the greater Charleston area!

Enjoy your treasure hunting and celebrate this great Carolina weather.

PS Enjoy the Oscars tonight!  I’ll be on the red carpet wearing my Oscar De La Renta!
